How much does it pay to write those cheesy little romance novels that sell like crazy?

but no one admits to reading them?

Just wondering if anyone knows what the actual income off of those is. I checked out the websites, but they just list the requirements for each line of stories. I suppose you have to be accepted to find out the wage, but what's the use if it's not worth your time?

Like I said no one admits to ever reading them, but they sell by the million, the publishers have to be making a fortune off of these little books.

Mass market royalties are usually 8% for the first 150,000 units sold and 10% thereafter. Most romances are in this format and sell for, what, about $7.95? Let me round that to $8.

$8 x 8% = 64 cents per book in royalties

$0.64 x 5,000 = $3,200 for every 5,000 copies sold

Not a lot.
