Whats with highlanders and romance novels?

I don't get why so many romance novels feature highlanders? Every other romance I see is called "the (insert adjective here)highlander" . Please explain :)Whats with highlanders and romance novels?
Certain groups tend to be perceived as romantic-- Native Americans, Vikings, titled persons (duke, earls, princes). Why? Many theories. One is that they are seen as heroic warriors who are distant and uninterested in love so the book's heroine gradually wins their love and these big brave fighters turn into gentle lovers. With Highlanders and Native Americans, you also have the air of loss or upcoming loss: the Native Americans' loss of tribal lands and the attempts to eradicate their culture, the end of the buffalo hunts, etc. and with the Highlanders you have the terrible loss at Culloden and the English takeover. The Highlanders were reputed to be wild, fierce warriors, very clan-oriented, proud; the lowlander Scots simply didn't cut such a dashing figure.Whats with highlanders and romance novels?
Kilts make it easy to write sex scenes.Whats with highlanders and romance novels?
They don't even wear anything under those kilts, you know.
Because it sells. Truth is that any romance book lover that gets hooked on Highlander stories has a hard time letting go of the "fixation". Fact is that this type of historical romance has been popular for decades, but it does seem like it is reaching a peak. I read quite a bit of historicals with Highland settings. And they are not limited to just historicals, many are paranormals (time travel). Those are my preferred ones. If you evern want to give it a try, look for Karen Marie Moning (her older books, not her new series) or Lynn Kurland.

What sub genres of romance novels do you like to read about?

I love writing romance. I want to write a novel that you guys will be interested in and that will be fun for me to write (any type of romance is fun for me). So what about you?

If you need help, here's a list of different sub genres and examples:

http://www.magicdragon.com/ROgens.html

So I'm wondering what sub genres of romance do you like?

Thanks for answering. What sub genres of romance novels do you like to read about?
I'd have to go with...paranormal romance, but that's only because I don't really read much romance at all unless it just "happens" to show up in a book that I'm reading. I generally read horror/fantasy, so that's the type of books that I'll see romance in sometimes, but other than that, I'm really not interested in romance at all. =]What sub genres of romance novels do you like to read about?
i have to say historical or futuristic.

haha, i know, they are completely different, but i think i am just bored with the 21st century. What sub genres of romance novels do you like to read about?
VAMPIRES!!!!

no just kidding.

please don't

I would have to say futuristic or murder. or both.

  • Is there any good christian romance novels i can read?

i love to read christian romance novels and i was wondering if there were any that you know of.Is there any good christian romance novels i can read?
Have you read anything by Francine Rivers? She's a great Christian Romance author. Is there any good christian romance novels i can read?
there is an incredible story called redeeming love, by Francine rivers. it is based on the book of Hosea. if you try to read it at first it might be a bit difficult, but it will pay off, it is a beautiful story. here is the summary: California's gold country, 1850. A time when sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep. Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside. Then she meets Michael Hosea. A man who seeks his Father's heart in everything, Michael obeys God's call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angels every bitter expectation, until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw. But with her unexpected softening come overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husbands pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny: her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does... the One who will never let her go.

That is the books summary. It is AMAZING!!!

How longs should romance novels be?

How long should a romance novel be? Is 200 pages too short for a romance novel? How longs should romance novels be?
I think it depends on the story, if you are done telling the characters story then it is the perfect length. If you aren't finished and there is still more to tell then just write more, just write until you finish the characters story. The story you want the readers to walk away knowing and hopefully loving.

I personally like longer books solely because they take longer to read and have more information. Like Jane Eyre is 400 + pages long and I read it all the time because I like the characters and the book is long enough to keep me interested in wanting more and not too long to bore me to death.
it all depends. there really isn't a certain length it has to be just as long as you get all you want to say, it makes sense, and its a good story in those 200 pages. How longs should romance novels be?
200 pages is a short book for almost any genre, as the neighborhood of 150 pages gets murkily into a gray area between novella and novel.

Seems to me that most readers of romance like longer books (350--500 pgs. +); though that may just be because when my kid used to read them, she liked historical romance, which may just take longer to write with any accuracy and get the romance happening too.

ADD: Of course any book can be great at shorter lengths... I am answering regarding romance novels only, as I see them.
No. The good length for any book is the length it takes to tell the story. How longs should romance novels be?
Don't look at your page count! You want to look at your word count, 50,000 words equalls out to about 175 printed pages which is about the adverage length of a harliquin romance.
It depends. Series romances, like Harlequin, Silhouette, etc. all tend to be short-ish (in the vicinity of 200-250 pages). Series romance also have to conform to a set of writing guidelines established by the publisher.

Any other type of romance (historical, paranormal, etc.) tends to be 300+.

Should I start reading romance novels?

Should I start reading romance novels? I've usually read fantasy or science fiction novels. Why or why not? If so where should I start?Should I start reading romance novels?
Yes! My favorite genre is fantasy-romance. You should definitely read books that fit into that category. It has fantasy, like you like, and romance, which you should start reading.

    Hope this helps :)
Does the genre hold any appeal for you? Do you see any in a bookstore that make you want to pick them up and read them? That's the best reason to start reading any genre.Should I start reading romance novels?
I think it would be good to start reading romance novels. I try to read as great of a variety of books as possible. Good luck :]
You should read any book that catches your interest regardless of the genre. I'm sure you have read fantasy and sci-fi novels with elements of romance and/or sex; how did you react to that? If you didn't like it, then you should avoid Harlequin romance novels. If you like a little romance, well, lots of books include a little romance, from "Bridget Jones' Diary" to "Wuthering Heights" to plenty of historical nonfiction books.

Scan the best-sellers list, your local library's picks, or just browse a bookstore. Read the backs. It does everyone good to branch out.Should I start reading romance novels?

  • Are action or romance novels more popular?

I've been writing an action manga novel and plan to to write a continuing before I write a manga comic. After that, I need to decide whether my next novel will be an action or a romance. I love to read romance but I find myself writing action with a bit of romance mixed in. What should I choose? Are action or romance novels more popular?
Actually, romance is the biggest selling genre in the publishing world. I'm not sure it it's the biggest selling sub-genre within manga, though.

Also, "action" is more of a movie / TV genre than a literary genre. For books, I'd describe it as "suspense" or "thriller" before I'd say "action."

You might look up thriller vs. romance sales to see what actual stats you can find.

As for what you should choose, go with whatever story won't leave you alone! Are action or romance novels more popular?

What are the best authors for Spanish romance novels?

I am looking to read my favorite genre, trashy romance novels, while sitting on the beach, but to add an educational edge I would prefer to read them in Spanish. Are there any NATIVE Spanish speakers that write trashy romance novels, preferably contemporary romances? Spanish authors are preferred to Latin American, but I'll take anything except a poorly translated American author - I might as well read that in English since most of them are direct translations anyway!

Bonus question: What is your favorite book by a Spanish author? It does not have to be a specific genre - just preferably something fun to read on the beach rather than heavy intellectualism - already have to read that stuff for class!

Thanks!!!What are the best authors for Spanish romance novels?
Caridad Bravo Adams, She has written some of the best stuff out there. Most of her work is used for Mexican soap operas. I don't know how easy her work is to come around but with the internet anything is possible. Lo Que Tu Callaste and Bodas De Odio are goods ones of hers.

Where can I read great romance novels online?

they could be from historical romance to contemporary novels. preferably racy but not too much.Where can I read great romance novels online?
I'm guessing you're looking for online, original romance fiction. So, in that case, there are tons of sites. However, the one I like best is FictionPress.com. It has tons of online romances. If you go to the "communities" section and to to the "romance" subsection, there are several communities (an group of stories that someone's put together) that have a whole list of complete romances. And, of course, you can always browse the whole romance section of the site, too, where you can find stories just starting out. If you're looking for racy stories, you can change the search settings to "M" which stands of "mature" and you'll find plenty of racy stories.

    Hope I helped!

Do anyone know of any good romance novels?

Im a historical romance nut! Actually any romance novel will do.

Im looking for something along the lines of "Hunger Like No Other" by Kresley Cole or "The Borgia Bride" by Jeanne Kalogridis or anything like the Highlander series by Karen Marie Moning.Do anyone know of any good romance novels?
There are 2 series' that I can recommend right off the bat:

The "Only" series by Elizabeth Lowell. Read them in this order: Only His, Only Mine, Only You and then Only Love. These are set in the old west, and are incredibly well written.

She wrote another series of 3 books set in medieval times called Untamed, Forbidden and Enchanted. They are interwoven, but should really be read in that order.

A single book that I adore is called Fairytale, written by Maggie Shayne.

As stated above, the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon is wonderfully done as well.

If you can find these written by Justine Dare, they're also really good. It's the Hawk books - Wild Hawk, Heart of the Hawk, and Fire Hawk. As Justine Davis, she also wrote two sci-fi stories called Lord of the Storm and Sky Pirate that are amazing.

The 2 series books written by Elizabeth Lowell are my favorites. I re-read them from time to time just because I can. I've also re-read the Outlander books in their entirety (the last was over 1400 pages) because they're that good.

    Happy reading !!

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. It's not historical per se, but it is set in the Late 1700s of England. Its gives you a glimpse into the lives of the people then, and shows you the way people thought. Its very romantic, but its not all about the romance. Its smart and very modern though a classic. My favorite book of all time.
i myself only used to read fantasy... twilight and a bunch of other books with vamps and jusnk like that. Then my mother convinced me to read this book, about a simple girl and a simple guy, at first i was like no! then, i let in and read the first chapter and bam i was hooked.

The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons is an AMAZING book!

The second one, Tatiana and Alexander is also GREAT!

Lady Chatterly's lover by D H Lawrence is a classic.

So is Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier.

The English Patient by Michael Ondantje or Atonement by Ian McEwan are tragic romances set in war times that are so smartly written, that you feel like reading a suspense thriller.

Where can I find lesbian, gay or bisexual romance novels?

I'm a young reading fan with a keen interest in the LGBT community, and I was wondering if anyone could point me out romance novels that are centred on homosexuality or bisexuality? Bear in mind that I'm nearly 14, so anything of the equivalent level of Bronte, Goethe or Mary Shelley isn't much good to me, but any modern fiction that appeals to lesbian, gay and bisexual teenagers.

Is reading too many romance novels bad for you?

Everytime I finish reading a romance novel, I was always feel as though I'm still sucked into that world and I want to read more. Do you think that reading a lot of romantic books are bad for you?Is reading too many romance novels bad for you?
Yes. I used to watch a lot of movies when I was a big-time loner because I wasn't getting any social feelings and interaction which the movies somehow provided. I think you're definitely getting too much from these novels. When you meet someone, you will inevitably compare your relationship to all these fantasies in your books. Real life and marriage is SO different than what you think it would have been like.

Plus, I think there's a lot more important books to read, namely nonfiction. Current affairs, politics, history, and other such topics are primarily what I read to be better informed and guarded from nationalistic propaganda.
No, I know exactly how you feel but you will work through it. You will eventually get tired of them so it will all work out. But nothing that has to do with reading is bad for you!Is reading too many romance novels bad for you?
i dont see how it can be bad for you as long as you have enough romance in your real life.
No. Everyone has a different way to "escape." Yours actually keeps your brain healthy! Is reading too many romance novels bad for you?
it is if you are ten years old

obsessed might be an explanation for someones over indulgence. but it's hollywood for God's sake read books that teach something. even forensic case files are better than the garbage of the universe
Reading is wonderful just try to keep in mind that books (fiction) are not reality. Especially romance books. Keeping the "romantic" outlook may laed to heartbreak
OMG! i feel the same way after i am done

no its not bad 4 u
Reading is always great for you brain, wheter it's romance novels down to comics. However, reading too many romance novels can deter you from finding love because you may find yourself holding the standards so high to meet the ones you read in your book. I know a lot of woman who have a hard time because they can't find love like the way they read it in the books.
That's how I feel when I finish any book, and I've only touched maybe five romance novels in my life.

There's nothing wrong with it, and it's definitely not bad for you. I'd say it's a great thing because it means you want to read (and so many people these days just don't).

If you're still worried, you could always pick up a different genre of book to switch it up a notch every once in a while.
Well, I don't think that it is (and I know perfectly well that feeling),

but my friend once send me something from an article that said that when people read romance books where there are 'perfect' guys or girls, then it's harder for them to actually find someone special in their life, because they will be basing them off of the books' characters.

Honestly, I don't think that it's true, but oh well..
as long as you aren't turning down "real life" activities in order to read all of the time! Reading is great, but it can be an escape, which is okay sometimes. If you feel like you are spending more time with books than real people, set yourself a limit of reading time. then, enjoy the books during that time, and enjoy your real life the rest of the time!
Nah, it just means it;s a good book if you feel like that.
I was the same way as a teen. Everyone told me it was creating unrealistic expectations of what love/relationships are really like when you're older. I can honestly say years later that that was BS. No, you may not meet the prince on the white horse, but the emotion you crave from the book can be found in real relationships--at least that's how I feel about my husband. I think the books teach you not to settle.
It's making you crave that passion you read about. Maybe you are desiring your own fantasy to play out similar to the ones in the books your reading. I say....read on!
no. why should it be? reading is never bad unless its po rn.
I think it can be bad. But it definitely isn't always bad, it's reading and escapism.

It's when the escapism becomes permanent that it's an issue. I have been watching several friends (all 20 and older) slowly slip into Twilight-dementia, and they're probably never going to accept the fact that glittery vampire boys just aren't real. It's sort of sad, actually...
I say read what you want....who cares as long as you are reading! I often feel the same way......and it doesn't have to be a romance either.
If you maintain a healthy love and social life, then no its not. But its if causes you to find flaws in man/woman and you find you are spending more time reading then socializing, then yes that is unhealthy.
I don't think so. I read romance novels, and have been for four years. I don't know if you'll ever get bored of them, like has been said. But if you're really worried about them being bad for you, try to find one that isn't only about the romance.

Do you think that there should be more lesbian romance novels out?

I was wondering how many bisexual or lesbian women would like to see more romance novels about their sexuality. if you would like to see more novels made available for the public, please tell me your thoughts or opinions..on why there should or should not be more.Do you think that there should be more lesbian romance novels out?
I would love to see this happen. I would also love to see more real lesbian porn instead of "lesbian" porn made by straight men.Do you think that there should be more lesbian romance novels out?
I wish there were more good-quality literature featuring queer women, not really romance novels.

There are plenty of quick, beach or airplane-friendly lesbian romance novels, the kinds written by Radclyffe, for example, which are kind of mindless fun, much like heterosexual romance novels: http://www.radfic.com/

I'd rather see more acclaimed LGBTQI literature appearing- the kind of writing that gets attention.

EDIT: Scarred Wolf- I'm not sure how much you know, but if you'd like, I could recommend a ton of great made-by-queer-women-for-queer-women porn, if you're interested. Just message me or edit your answer if you'd like me to shoot you some names and websites.Do you think that there should be more lesbian romance novels out?
I know several websites that have M rated stories for all tastes. Written by amateurs mostly, but some are really amazing. There is usually some form of classification, where you can select/search romance type stories.

    Google erotica....
I think there should be. There is a growing population of people who are out and there should be books for them.

What character plots work well with romance novels?

I'm writing a romance super natural novel and I'm struggling with my characters. Do vampires and witches get along? Or should I try to do Vampire vs Vampire or Witch vs WitchWhat character plots work well with romance novels?
It's your story, it's your universe. Vampires and Witches can do whatever you want, you make the rules. Just be careful, once you make the rules it is a very bad idea to break your own rules so craft them carefully. What character plots work well with romance novels?
i think vampire with the witch would be something new and original. i'm getting tired of reading romance novels about strictly vampires

it would be nice to read something differentWhat character plots work well with romance novels?
Well, honestly it's your story. You can basically make it whatever you want, (as long as it's legal). Soooo yeah. Witches and vampires can get along, although I think that plot is a little bit cheesy for a romance book....sorry!!!! I like vampire vs. some kind of evil vampire plot. Forbidden, teenage love with a supernatural twist.

    Juicy. Lol.
    Human vs Goat eh? anyone?

What are some good college romance novels?

I'm in college and I seem to be lacking in the reading department. I want a good romance novel that also deals with college - maybe. Just something that ranges from ages 18+. I really grow tired of reading about freshman who love seniors and etc. No. If you have any recommendations. Let me know.

Do you know of any good Gothic Romance novels?

In my class we're studying gothic romance, for an assignment we have to pick out a novel to read. So I want to know if you have any recommendations for a really enjoyable novel under this genre. I would also like to know if there are any gothic romance novels designed to appeal to guys and if so what are their titles? And the cheesier the novel, the better!!Do you know of any good Gothic Romance novels?
    Vampire Kisses?

I'm not sure if that'll appeal much to guys...but it definately is a good Gothic Romance novel!!!Do you know of any good Gothic Romance novels?
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen makes fun of the Gothic romance genre. The heroine, Catherine Morland, is a fan of Gothic romance novels and when she visits her friend's home --an old abbey in the countryside -- she suspects a lot of those sinister things happening to her.

For cheesy, try V.C Andrews. My Sweet Audrina is a good choice, because it's a nonseries title, written fairly early and has more gothic elements than many of her trilogy/quadrilogies.Do you know of any good Gothic Romance novels?
    Wuthering Heights

I'm studying that and its gothic.

They are great books, you should give them a try.
well, it depends, do you like any other genres? because i know a ton, so here they are, and from what i remember they all have romance in them:

Vampirates by Justin Somper, obviously a vampire novel, but there's romance.

The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, City of Bones is the first book, there's adventure, romance, fantasy, and much more.

The Hunger Games by suzanne collins, main theme is survival, there's romance in it too between katniss and peeta

Maximum Ride series by james patterson, first book is The Angel Experiment romance, sci-fi, fantasy, and adventure

House of Night series by p.c cast and kristin cast, first book is Marked, vampires, fantasy, romance, adventure, *note: there is a lot of swearing in it, 20 year olds i'm sure read the books, but then again i'm 11 and i've read them all, but it is a very good series

Riley Jenson Guardian series, by Keri Arthur, first book is Full Moon Rising, vampires, fantasy, also, Keri Arthur has TONS of other books so check them out on her site if ya want

Oh. My. Gods. by Tera Lynn Childs, greek mythology (kinda like percy jackson series except the girl, Pheobe is 17 and it has a completely different plot), romance, first book is Oh. My. Gods, second book is Goddess Boot Camp

Rhymes With Witches by Lauren Myracle, romance i guess, also Peace, Love, and Baby Ducks by Lauren Myracle is good, it's romance also.

i also like sarah dressen's books, she has quite a few

Should teenage girls read romance novels?

I'm not talking about the Twilight books or anything, I'm talking about the romance novels with, for example, Fabio on the cover. Harlequin romance novels, I guess.Should teenage girls read romance novels?
Well it depends on what kind of scenes there are and your maturity level. If you read about this graphic scene and giggle about it and show all your friend, then I don't think romance books are for you. But if you just read them and move on, then sure, go ahead! And I don't think it's porn. It's a book for gods sake. If the author meant it to be like porn, the title would be "Porno Book". And plus, you're not going to see a lot of guys jacking off to books. That would be rather weird.
it's stupid to not let teens read romances, I started reading adult romances when I was eleven! It doesn't do anything!

Should teenage girls read romance novels?
My answer is NO, a teenager should not read romance novels. I do consider it the same as watching porn. The reason I feel this way is when I was a teenager I just glanced at a romance novel while I was baby sitting for my mother's friend and the baby was asleep. I only read a few paragraphs, but the graphic descriptions of illicit sex stay in in my mind even to this day. It effected the way I feel about sex today, dirty and disgusting. Sex was not meant to be something disgusting as the book depicted. It was meant to be something wonderful between a husband and wife not with everybody who comes along. Teenagers should know about sex, but it should be given in the right format, not in some perverted form in a romance novel. There are some good love inspired romance novels published by Steeple Hill that are well written and have good plots. If a teenage girl needs to read a romance novel, try one. I read them and enjoy every one.
It all depends on the book, the way you were raised, how old they are, and some other stuff. I'm 14 and I read books that are sold in the erotica section because my mom tells me they are really good, but I'd get KILLED I was caught watching porn. Also, some books like that only have generic, vague things, nothing vivid and a teenager is considered to be 13-19. There is a big difference on what a 13 year old reads (if they read at all) and what a 19 year old reads. In my house, my mom believes that books shouldn't be restricted (hence why I read what I read) and my dad has no part in books. Other families might believe that Twilight is too sexual or something.

And me personally, I am half and half with the porn thing. The problem with porn is that it puts thoughts about sex in someones head that aren't necessarily true and it exploits humans. Books still put those thoughts in your mind (more so actually because they say it "beautiful" and "magical" and stuff like that) but the characters are fictional, so it doesn't really exploit anyone.

So it all depends on that person and their background, and sorry this is so long, but hope I helped!Should teenage girls read romance novels?
I have a college degree and sometimes have been known to read computer manuals, dictionaries whatever. But deep down I love to read good old trash. Yeah, teenagers should read romance novels. They are pretty clean. years ago the heroines were all virgins, now they mostly are good girls, maybe with a little experience. They are not all about sex, they are about love!!!!! Mostly totally unrealistic but fun to lay on the couch under a down comforter with something to snack on and read. You don't even have to strain your brain and you can read em in a minute. Plus you can get them for a quarter at thrift stores and yard sales and such.
Read whatever you like, but understand what it is. Romance novels are incredibly popular because they are escapist fantasies. They allow women to project themselves into unrealistic scenarios involving unrealistically perfect men and deliver unrealistically perfect outcomes, i.e. stuff women never get in real life, which is why they love fantasizing about it. It's the same with guys reading action/adventure novels. Enjoy it for what it is, but don't set your expectations about REAL LIFE relationships and sex by these books. Life just isn't like that!

It's not really on the same level as watching porn because the emotional effect is very different, but some of the publishing lines do contain reasonably explicit sex scenes that would be unsuitable for girls under 16.
I do not think there is a problem with it. Of course when I think of teenage I think of 15+. If you are talking about 13-14 year old I would say that would be a little confusing to them in some parts so they should probably wait to read them till they understand what is going on and that it is not like that in real life as well. I do not consider it to be the same element though because you are just reading and not seeing.
well not really. if the images they "see" when they read are in their heads, than they had to have known what the uh, image was that they saw. it's not equivelant to porn, because they can't see anything they haven't already seen before if that makes sense. although, if your daughter or whatever is bringing pornographic books to school, than I think you have some bigger issues to deal with
I think they should and shouldn't ... Should because it gives them something to dream about and maybe look for in a guy or girl whom ever they choose... Shouldn't because they can get so wrapped up in the stories and want their whole life to work out like that ... when the chances of that happening are very slim
well, why not? i dont think there is anything wrong with it, and no, i do not belive it to be ANYTHING like porn, porn is discusting, books aren't.
I guess...i mean, romance are kinda cute, but i definetely wouldnt consider it porn. That is, unless they ARE describing porn
Yes but you would rather have them reading a book than watching porn. Most teenage boys watch porn anyway but would you rather have them watching porn or reading a book?
Im a teenage girl and i ABSOLUTELY HATE ROMANCE NOVELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!鈥?

    i like fantasy:)

no not at all. completely different. Books are stories, porn is for your own needs.
why shouldn't they be able to? No it's not like watching porn at all, i mean it's not like they don't know about the birds and the bees
    Read what you like. :)
maybe just kidding no your a girl its natural for you to read romance
idk but i know youll be wanting to have sex all the time
    no i read them
it is not the same as watching porn jeez
    it depends on the book
    no

    Hi,

I would recommend you read "The Thorn Birds" by Colleen McCullough. It's a bit more mature then "27 Dresses" but I feel you would really enjoy it.

It's a classic in romance novels, not in the sense that it is written in old English with high words that you wouldn't understand, it's a classic due to the story line and the way the characters behave and react.

Enjoy the read. :):):)What are some good romance novels or books?
The best and awesome-ist romance books i have ever read is the.. Twilight,New Moon,Eclipse,Breaking Dawn [coming out in August] All those books are by Stephanie Meyers. Some teen romance novels that I read and really liked were:

A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn

"Talia fell under a spell . . . . Jack broke the curse.

Talia:I was told to beware the accursed spindle, but it was so enchanting, so hypnotic. . . .

Jack:I was looking for a little adventure the day I ditched my tour group. But finding a comatose town, with a hot-looking chick asleep in it, was so not what I had in mind.

Talia:I awakened in the same place but in another time鈥攖o a stranger's soft kiss.

Jack:I couldn't help kissing her. Sometimes you just have to kiss someone. I didn't know this would happen.

Talia:Now I am in dire trouble because my father, the king, says I have brought ruin upon our country. I have no choice but to run away with this commoner!

Jack:Now I'm stuck with a bratty princess and a trunk full of her jewels. . . . The good news: My parents will freak!

Think you have dating issues? Try locking lips with a snoozing stunner who turns out to be 316 years old. Can a kiss transcend all鈥攅ven time?"

    Cindy Ella by Robin Palmer

"A modern day version of Cinderella, a little predictable, but a good read."

The year of Secret Assignments by Jaclyn Moriarty

"The story of friendship and love. This book will bring out soo many emotions in you and there are some amusing twists that will have you rereading the same page to make sure you didn't imagine it"

If I have a Wicked Stepmother, Where's My Prince? by Melissa Kantor

"Another modern day remake of Cinderella but this one has a different out come than the original."

Girl v. Boy by Yvonne Collins and Sandy Rideout

"This is one of my favorite books of all time. It is hilarious and mind-blowing as well as irritating and gratifying. It is a truly great read. If you only picked one book from this list, Girl v. Boy would be my top recommendation :D

    Most of Sarah Dessen's books:

    Lock and Key

    Just Listen

    The truth about Forever

    Keeping the Moon

    This Lullabye

"All are great reads filled with romance a long with lessons that help a girl get through life."

You didn't specify on whether you wanted fantasy teen romance novels as well so I'll just list them here and if you're not interested in them, you can just skip over it.

    Princess Ben by Catherine Murdock

"A bunch of faerie tales gathered in one. It is entertaining at the very least."

Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare

"This is a great series with a lot of twists and turns in the plot. You'll never get bored with this book.

The Faerie Path series by Frewin Jones

"Long lost Princess finally returns home to try and save her kingdom and family. Romance and family are both in here.

Thanks. What authors write the best romance novels?
Try Meg Cabot!! Her writting is funny and romantic at the same time. Here's some of her novels as well as some others:

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It's about a girl named Bella who moves to Forks, Washington and runs into a group of vampires. VERY VERY good!http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Twiligh鈥?/a>

Pants On Fire by Meg Cabot. It's about a girl who basically has everything (popular best friend, good grades... and TWO boyfriends.) It's really funny because then her friend from eighth grade come back to town (everyone hates him) and she falls head over heals for him too.

    http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Pants-o鈥?/a>

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. It's about four girls who where born as friends. They go through ups and downs together.

    http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Sis鈥?/a>

All-American Girl and All-American Girl Ready Or Not by Meg Cabot. It's about an outcast girl who happens to save the presidents life. Suddenly everyone at school wants to be her friend, but she doesn't really care... What she does care about is the presidents son...

    http://search.barnesandnoble.com/All-Ame鈥?/a>

Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot. It's about a girl who goes over seas with her boyfriend after (almost!) finishing college. After a bad break up with him, she goes with her friend and runs into someone.... It's a very good adult book!

    http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Queen-o鈥?/a>

How To Be Popular by Meg Cabot. It's about a girl who comes across an old book in her grandma'a attic called how to be popular. So, she follows the rules of the book hoping to become popular.

    http://search.barnesandnoble.com/How-to-鈥?/a>

Jinx by Meg Cabot. If you liked Twilight, then you'll like this book. It's about a girl who has bad luck all the time so she moves in with her aunt and uncle. He sister is into witchcraft and I don't want to spoil the rest, but it fairly good.

    http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Jinx/Me鈥?/a>

Teen Idol by Meg Cabot. This is about a girl who has an advice column in her school newspaper. So, when a famous actor comes to her school and she's the only one who knows about it, chaos occurs!

    http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Teen-Id鈥?/a>

Good luck with finding a book! I hope these help!
Try reading If We Kiss by Rachel Vail. It's not really great in action, at least the fighting monsters or whatever kind, but it's one of the best romance novel I've ever read.

It's about a girl named Charlie (short for Charlotte), who thinks of her first kiss, and one day, she got kissed by a guy named Kevin. The problem is, her best friend Tess likes Kevin, which makes him off-limits.

It's a nice book, and the end is definitely a worth to read. :)What authors write the best romance novels?
Norah Roberts. Jayne Anne Krantz has good mystery, sex, etc.
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer was really good

This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen was exceptionaly good. it is about a girl (Remy) whos mother is on husband number 5 so she isnt a beliver in love so when a guy literally bumps in to her at the store she is planning to never think of him again. but she sees him later and due to his kindness she starts to fall for him.

Just Listen by Sarah Desses. At the House of Night, Zoey finds true friendship, loyalty, and romance as well as mistrust and deception.
