Also, if you've seen the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha" and liked it, the book is FABULOUS! Those women were sold into prostitution, basically. They were educated and trained to sing and play instruments, but they were prostitutes, pimped out to any man who'd pay for them. It's historical fiction, and also on amazon:

It's been a very long time since I was into the romance genre. But I remember reading a book in the early 80's by Bertrice Small called Skye O'Malley. However, if you're looking for light romance, this is not it. This one is more a passion and unbridled lust kind of book. She gets sold into slavery and spends time in a harem in Algiers. I think there were a couple of sequels to the story too.Names of historical romance novels with harems or being sold?
