Difference Between Romance and Erotic Novels?

I want to know what the difference between a romance novel and erotica/erotic novels. I've always thought them to be the same but I was recently told they are two different things. So it would be much appreciated if anyone could help me out.

Also, in a romance novel, how descriptive can one be in an intimate scene? I know in erotica you can be very blatant but how far can you describe something like that in a romance book?Difference Between Romance and Erotic Novels?
Romance is more about emotions and the development of a relationship, erotica is very descriptive about all the nooks and crannies of sex (so to speak..)

Sometimes romance novels use the odd sexy sentences, but generally speaking they are not in any way smutty.

Erotica is meant to be read for sexual arousement.Difference Between Romance and Erotic Novels?
Romance novels are usually centered around the relationship between two individuals, whereas erotica is focused on the sexual relationship between the two individuals.

Erotic novels are usually far more graphic and often intended to arouse or excite the reader.Difference Between Romance and Erotic Novels?
An erotic novel was written for the sole purpose of getting someone off. A romance novel can have erotic parts in it, but it has to be in good taste.
