I absolutely adore romance stories, but most novels seem to be a bit cheesy. Especially the ones with the big buff guy on the cover. I also like fantasy and sci fi. So a combination of the two would be lovely. I would like Twilight, but the description of the vampires in that are a bit silly. Sparkling and everything.
Any suggestions would be great.Romance novels that aren't cheesy or ridiculous?
This isn't a complete romance story, but it is such a great novel and based on the books you like, fits your age range. There is a romance aspect, but there is a plot other than that. I just finished this novel and loved it to death! WARNING: This novel does deal with the topic of date rape, but is in no way graphic, and is all in all a lighthearted, funny, enjoyable read.
"The Mockingbirds" by Daisy Whitney:
“Silence does not equal consent. . . . The only thing that means yes is yes.” When Alex, a junior at Themis, a New England boarding school, wakes up naked in a boy’s bed, she doesn’t immediately realize what has happened during the previous drunken night. As fragmented memories return, though, she begins to understand that what happened was date rape. With the encouragement of her friends and older sister, Alex submits her case to the Mockingbirds, an underground justice system inspired by Harper Lee’s classic novel, in which Themis students investigate and try crimes committed against other students. Whitney, whose author’s note discusses her own teenage experience of date rape and its aftermath, is a seasoned journalist, and she writes with smooth assurance and a propulsive rhythm as she follows Alex through the Mockingbird’s trial process and its accompanying emotional storm of confusion, shame, fear, and finally, empowerment. Authentic and illuminating, this strong debut explores vital teen topics of sex and violence; crime and punishment; ineffectual authority; and the immeasurable, healing influence of friendship and love. Grades 9-12."
Here's a list of a few romance novels that I really enjoyed that I found a bit less ridiculous when it came to the love story:
*Water for Elephants
*The Time Traveler's Wife
*A Certain Slant of Light
*The Notebook
*A Walk to Remember
*Redeeming Love
For fantasy and sci fi, I would recommend The Host, which is by Stephanie Meyer (but in my opinion a gredat improvement from the Twilight series), Graceling, and Fire, the latter two which are by Kristin Cashore.Romance novels that aren't cheesy or ridiculous?
Here's a cute romance story I think you'll like :) It's also a mystery, and it's definitely not too cheesy or ridiculous http://quizilla.teennick.com/stories/19016697/one-last-chance-to-reverse-this-curse-1
I don't really read much romance and when I do it's usually classic literature such as Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility... basically anything by Jane Austin, or the Bronte sisters.
I like Louisa May Alcott's A Long and Fatal Love ChaseRomance novels that aren't cheesy or ridiculous?
Jodi Picoult books actually tend to have really great romances. The two love stories I really like are in Second Glance and Keeping Faith.
Graceling and Fire by Kristin Cashore are amazing books with strong heroines and believable romance.
