I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any books that have romance in them but also the element of a fairy tale.
Any suggestions would be great.
Nothing too teenagerish..
AND YES I have read Twilight so please do not suggest it.What are some good fairy tale romance novels more for adults?
A fine example that answers your question straight away:
Stardust, or American Gods, both by Neil Gaimen.
These books are set and founded directly upon fairy tales. They take a sampling and whip them up into a new and unique cosmology.
However, books that are based on fairy tales tend to have a different kind of romance than books like Twilight, which are really just soap operas where people have angsty superpowers. Nothing wrong with a soap opera, but Fairy Tales are built around much different kinds of love and romance. They are idealized and idyllic, where True Love will conquer all. Notice, just because I said Idyllic, I never said childish.
Speaking of True Love, most people have seen the movie The Princess Bride, but few have read it. Do so. The book is better, which is saying a lot.
If you're looking for something much *more* like Twilight, I cautiously suggest the Anita Blake series by Laura K. Hamilton. If Anne Rice is the father of the modern Vampire novel, most of the copycat series out there take after their mother, Ms. Hamilton. These books create a very compelling world, up until book 9 or so. After this they are simply porn. Not that there's anything wrong with porn.
If by Fairy Tale, you mean you want your books to not just be magical, but fantastic in the true sense of the word, I suggest the seminal Wizard of Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin. The woman is a pontificating blowhard, but she can write.
Suggestions can only get you so far. People are limited to what they've read, and most people are limited in what they read. Finding that rarely mentioned gem that you will adore is going to take Barn Cleaning method. You'll have to wade through a lot of crap. I suggest the library. It's much cheaper to shovel **** there than at Borders.
JONATHAN STRANGE %26amp; MR. NORREL.
It is very enjoyable and not teenagerish at all. It has old English fairy references (not the mild, cartoonish ones of today) and the adventures of a man who wants to bring magic back to England. The characters are very enjoyable and the story is very interesting. http://www.amazon.com/Jonathan-Strange-M鈥?/a>
My second pick is FAERIE TALE by Raymond Feist. It is an adult fairy tale and slightly horror. http://www.amazon.com/Faerie-Tale-Raymon鈥?/a>What are some good fairy tale romance novels more for adults?
Maybe check out Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. This is paranormal romance: the Dark Hunter is an immortal with no soul who is charged with protecting humans from Daimans (vampires) and other creatures of the night. He falls for a woman with some quirks and perhaps a past she didn't know about. Also includes some mythology. I find them a fun, romantic series.
Succubus Blues (first book in Richelle Mead's Georgina Kincaid series) is very non-teenager-ish... :)
There aren't many "non young-adult" good books out there, because people seem to think that nobody reads unless its for a book report. *scowl* which sucks 'cause I'm NOT in high school, so I like it when my characters aren't either. :/What are some good fairy tale romance novels more for adults?
