Should teenage girls read romance novels?

I'm not talking about the Twilight books or anything, I'm talking about the romance novels with, for example, Fabio on the cover. Harlequin romance novels, I guess.Should teenage girls read romance novels?
Well it depends on what kind of scenes there are and your maturity level. If you read about this graphic scene and giggle about it and show all your friend, then I don't think romance books are for you. But if you just read them and move on, then sure, go ahead! And I don't think it's porn. It's a book for gods sake. If the author meant it to be like porn, the title would be "Porno Book". And plus, you're not going to see a lot of guys jacking off to books. That would be rather weird.
it's stupid to not let teens read romances, I started reading adult romances when I was eleven! It doesn't do anything!

Should teenage girls read romance novels?
My answer is NO, a teenager should not read romance novels. I do consider it the same as watching porn. The reason I feel this way is when I was a teenager I just glanced at a romance novel while I was baby sitting for my mother's friend and the baby was asleep. I only read a few paragraphs, but the graphic descriptions of illicit sex stay in in my mind even to this day. It effected the way I feel about sex today, dirty and disgusting. Sex was not meant to be something disgusting as the book depicted. It was meant to be something wonderful between a husband and wife not with everybody who comes along. Teenagers should know about sex, but it should be given in the right format, not in some perverted form in a romance novel. There are some good love inspired romance novels published by Steeple Hill that are well written and have good plots. If a teenage girl needs to read a romance novel, try one. I read them and enjoy every one.
It all depends on the book, the way you were raised, how old they are, and some other stuff. I'm 14 and I read books that are sold in the erotica section because my mom tells me they are really good, but I'd get KILLED I was caught watching porn. Also, some books like that only have generic, vague things, nothing vivid and a teenager is considered to be 13-19. There is a big difference on what a 13 year old reads (if they read at all) and what a 19 year old reads. In my house, my mom believes that books shouldn't be restricted (hence why I read what I read) and my dad has no part in books. Other families might believe that Twilight is too sexual or something.

And me personally, I am half and half with the porn thing. The problem with porn is that it puts thoughts about sex in someones head that aren't necessarily true and it exploits humans. Books still put those thoughts in your mind (more so actually because they say it "beautiful" and "magical" and stuff like that) but the characters are fictional, so it doesn't really exploit anyone.

So it all depends on that person and their background, and sorry this is so long, but hope I helped!Should teenage girls read romance novels?
I have a college degree and sometimes have been known to read computer manuals, dictionaries whatever. But deep down I love to read good old trash. Yeah, teenagers should read romance novels. They are pretty clean. years ago the heroines were all virgins, now they mostly are good girls, maybe with a little experience. They are not all about sex, they are about love!!!!! Mostly totally unrealistic but fun to lay on the couch under a down comforter with something to snack on and read. You don't even have to strain your brain and you can read em in a minute. Plus you can get them for a quarter at thrift stores and yard sales and such.
Read whatever you like, but understand what it is. Romance novels are incredibly popular because they are escapist fantasies. They allow women to project themselves into unrealistic scenarios involving unrealistically perfect men and deliver unrealistically perfect outcomes, i.e. stuff women never get in real life, which is why they love fantasizing about it. It's the same with guys reading action/adventure novels. Enjoy it for what it is, but don't set your expectations about REAL LIFE relationships and sex by these books. Life just isn't like that!

It's not really on the same level as watching porn because the emotional effect is very different, but some of the publishing lines do contain reasonably explicit sex scenes that would be unsuitable for girls under 16.
I do not think there is a problem with it. Of course when I think of teenage I think of 15+. If you are talking about 13-14 year old I would say that would be a little confusing to them in some parts so they should probably wait to read them till they understand what is going on and that it is not like that in real life as well. I do not consider it to be the same element though because you are just reading and not seeing.
well not really. if the images they "see" when they read are in their heads, than they had to have known what the uh, image was that they saw. it's not equivelant to porn, because they can't see anything they haven't already seen before if that makes sense. although, if your daughter or whatever is bringing pornographic books to school, than I think you have some bigger issues to deal with
I think they should and shouldn't ... Should because it gives them something to dream about and maybe look for in a guy or girl whom ever they choose... Shouldn't because they can get so wrapped up in the stories and want their whole life to work out like that ... when the chances of that happening are very slim
well, why not? i dont think there is anything wrong with it, and no, i do not belive it to be ANYTHING like porn, porn is discusting, books aren't.
I guess...i mean, romance are kinda cute, but i definetely wouldnt consider it porn. That is, unless they ARE describing porn
Yes but you would rather have them reading a book than watching porn. Most teenage boys watch porn anyway but would you rather have them watching porn or reading a book?
Im a teenage girl and i ABSOLUTELY HATE ROMANCE NOVELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!鈥?

i like fantasy:)

no not at all. completely different. Books are stories, porn is for your own needs.
why shouldn't they be able to? No it's not like watching porn at all, i mean it's not like they don't know about the birds and the bees
Read what you like. :)
maybe just kidding no your a girl its natural for you to read romance
idk but i know youll be wanting to have sex all the time
no i read them
it is not the same as watching porn jeez
