Why do women love reading romance novels?

How are the men portrayed in romance novels? What qualities do the men possess? Why do women love reading romance novels?
A good friend of mine writes romance novels and she's very successful at it.

I think the secret lies in the feminine psyche. They are the home makers. They may not all agree to that but deep inside most want to be loved and protected by a strong male. The most successful romantic novelists give their men a feminine side that they can relate to.

Mr. Darcy, for instance, in Pride and Prejudice, makes it his business to secretly help others in distress. This is a typical trait for the romantic male lead.

There is the thrill of the chase. Again women love to be romantically pursued by someone to whom they are attracted. Another ploy is to start the heroine hating the male main character but growing to love him as his real 'self' develops.

A lot of the language used is what may be considered 'cheesy' or 'slushy' by male readers as it revolves around emoting.

I can't say I'm a fan of romantic novels but they are constantly amongst the best-selling lists. Maybe not surprising when you consider that 81% of book buyers are women.

Why do women love reading romance novels?

Women read romance novels for the same reason anyone reads a novel. They like to be taken away for a while. They like the adventure, and fun of the novel, and there is nothing like a good set of characters, and an occasional steamy love scene.

How are the men portrayed in romance novels?

Ususally not very realistically. The men are ideals that women want, just as they are in most forms of entertainment. (The girls in playboy don't really look like that, for example.)

What qualities do the men possess?

Strong, independent, usually kind and certainly heroic. Frequently they are mysterious too.Why do women love reading romance novels?
Hey

1) Why do women love reading romance novels?

Some do, not all, mainly because love is normally portrayed as a feminine stuff, and books often show love away from reality, its very um, fantasy kind of stuff and girls love to dream about that =P

2) How are the men portrayed in romance novels?

Just the same as women in books, some are proper idiots who get off with anyone they meet and some are just totally awesome. So normally there's an idiotic guy, then after there's a great guy

3) What qualities do the men possess?

Normally the great guy is pretty understanding, it's different for each character. Some are selfish every now and again, some love the girl for who she is, some are sweet, some try their best to be good enough and etc etc...read a few romance novels, you'll understand what I mean

Hope I helped

xx
We love reading them because it seems like that's the closest thing we will ever get to true romance! LOL No... that's not the only reason, but it is nice to think about someone sweeping you off your feet the way it usually happens in romance novels.

Men are portrayed different ways, each book is different. You should read one I think the women in your life would definitely reap the benefits;)Why do women love reading romance novels?
Well I can honestly say to you that I am not a big fan of romance novels.

Women love to read the romance novels because it is what we like to do. We would like to get the Mr Darcy or (to make this understandable to people of my age [teenage]) Edward Cullen in our lives. There is not one person with loads of estrogen in them that does not fantasies about their ideal guy.
Because not once does the man fart, burp, leave the seat up, or refuse to ask for directions. The men in those books actually listen when women vent, are supportive, let the women know how they are feeling, and come to the rescue in the end.
strong, handsome, Irresistible, nice hair that the girl always ruffles lol, fit, gentlemen etc . . .

i love sci fi romance x
depends on who is reading it. different qualities stand out for different people. best thing to do? read one and find out...
